McDermott & North

Meeting at Brisbane’s Embassy Bar in 2016, the Indie Folk duo are made up of Paddy McDermott and Rhys North, both of whom were also performing as solo artists in their own right upon their introduction at the venue’s Open Mic night. Fast forwarding to 2020 and the pair have comfortably established themselves as one of the city’s most well-loved folk duo combinations, with a juxtaposition of vocal styles that ventures from a touch of the Arctic Monkeys Alex Turner, to the melodious harmonies of The Beatles.

Their debut 2018 5 track EP, ‘The Lemon Tapes Vol.1’ happily reached number 14 in the Apple Music ‘Singer-Songwriter’ chart, with the Matt Corby-esque lead single ‘Broken Girl’ receiving international airplay, a Triple J feature and a celerated live performance on ABC prime-time breakfast radio. The band’s more recent release, the 2020 single ‘Everytime (I’m a Little Bit Like You), was equally well received, with New Zealand’s ‘RNZ’ jumping onto the list of stations enjoying the band’s musical offerings and Triple J yet again supporting the song on their ‘Roots n All’ program. The song possesses a palpable sense of the duo’s love of The Beatles sound, which traverses the evolution of style through the lyrical ramblings heard in some of Oasis’s later work.

With live performance at their heart, the two have navigated their way across the Australian continent and brought their heartfelt, unassuming method of storytelling in a song to a wide reaching, loyal fanbase in their time together.

Jordan Merrick

Bringing his unique style of folk, blues-rock, cabaret and vaudeville, is Brisbane based singer-songwriter Jordan Merrick.

In 2015 the young singer-songwriter began to develop his live show where he lived in the Gold Coast, Queensland.

This humble, musical poet released his debut single ‘Untitled #1’ in February (2017) which alone has had 750k+ plays on Spotify, had national radio play on Triple J & Double J and was later followed up by the single ‘You Gotta Go’ that reached #2 in the AMRAP Regional charts in May. Merrick then took his debut EP ‘In Colour’ (released May 5 2017) on tour along the East Coast of Australia.

In 2020, Merrick returned to his humble sound made simply with his poetic lyrics and an acoustic guitar. He released a number of singles including ‘I Can’t Cry’,  ‘Millenial Blues’, ‘Rock N Roll Man’,  ‘Queen Of Versailles’ and ‘Dear Friend’.

Bringing back a full-band sound, Merrick has released ‘This Rainy Day’ and ‘Lonelier Than You’ – setting the tone for another big year.
