Monique Clare w/  Jo Davie

Teaming up with Jo Davie (Cigany Weaver) for a double bill at Studio 188, award-winning Australian cellist and singer-songwriter Monique Clare launches her shimmering and triumphant new single ‘Better Now’. With lyrics that speak to a journey through mental health, these shows comprise a set of songs with BIG feelings: love, heartache, rage, the loss of loved ones, healing and golden moments of peace. Bring all your feelings that are too big to carry alone, and let’s celebrate them here.

MONIQUE CLARE

With just her voice, four strings and a cello bow, Monique Clare carves out a musical landscape to get lost in. Driving rhythms collide with intricate cello lines; heart-tugging harmonies are woven through compelling vocals. Monique’s intrepid nature has seen her teach cello in war-torn Afghanistan, lead groups up a dark mountainside for sunrise concerts, tour internationally with The Maes and jump on stage to play with world-class artists from Kate Miller-Heidke to Eminem. Raised by classical musicians, steeped in folk tradition and influenced by artists like Björk and Joanna Newsom, her live show is mesmerising, cathartic and offbeat. After spending 2021 crafting and releasing international collaborations through Global Music Match and Folk Music Canada and performing at the World Expo in Dubai, her long anticipated debut album is due for release in 2022.

JO DAVIE

Graced with jazz sensibilities, exceptional vocal technique and a four-octave range, Jo Davie is an Australian vocalist, composer, researcher, and teacher. Graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2017, with First Class Honours and the University Medal, she burst onto the music scene as 2018 runner-up Folk Alliance Young Artist of the Year. She has since won audiences and accolades across Australia, recently supporting Katie Noonan at QPAC Concert Hall. Alongside regular performances in other projects, including Cigány Weaver and Asha Jefferies, Jo is also completing her PhD investigating the female singer-songwriter’s use of music technology and self-production.
